Fertility

Fertility refers to the natural capability of an individual or a couple to conceive and produce offspring. It's a complex process that involves many factors including age, lifestyle, and pre-existing health conditions. Female fertility largely revolves around the menstrual cycle, which prepares the ovary for ovulation and the uterine lining for possible implantation. On the other hand, male fertility is more consistent, centered around the continual production of healthy sperm.

Those struggling with fertility problems have access to more information and treatment options than ever before. Infertility affects both men and women and can result from a diverse array of causes. In women, conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, polycystic ovary syndrome, and premature menopause can make it difficult to become or stay pregnant, whereas male infertility most often stems from issues with sperm production or function. Thankfully, health care providers offer various fertility treatments and reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF).

It's important to consider fertility not just when trying to conceive, but also as a measure of overall reproductive health — regular menstrual cycles in women and healthy sperm production in men can signal optimal hormonal and physiological health. By understanding fertility, we can unlock a deeper understanding of our bodies.
